Chair 48 is one of Finn Juhl’s most iconic designs. It was conceived as an attempt to merge art with functionality and is often regarded as a sculptural piece. The backrest appears to float in the air—detached from the armrests and legs—thanks to hidden joints and precise craftsmanship that give it a sense of lightness and airiness.
The chair was first introduced to the American public at the Good Design exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in the 1950s, where it was met with great acclaim. Its success played a significant role in establishing Juhl’s breakthrough in the United States.
